Sophocles currently manages
funds using his FATALPHA strategy under the umbrella of CDB Global Capital. He spent over
11 years at Argo Capital Management Ltd, an award winning London-based
Emerging Markets hedge fund manager. Due to his long tenor at
the firm, he had been involved with all aspects of the investment process,
including portfolio management, restructurings, research (equity, high-yield
bonds and loans), and modeling (credit, sovereign and default). He
was integral part of the investment decision process and travelled to
numerous Emerging Markets countries (including Argentina, Mexico, Indonesia,
Singapore, Thailand, etc) to evaluate investment prospects and projects.
Prior to that he was head of research at CNH Capital Markets in Nicosia
where he specialized in Cypriot equity and debt markets. He began his
career as an mergers and acquisitions analyst at Equity Securities in
Minneapolis, while he had intern during his college years at Morgan Stanley in
Urbana, IL. He received a Fulbright Scholarship via the Cyprus-America Scholarship program to study in the United States. There, he double majored in economics and finance at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In addition he completed three professional designations; the Chartered Financial Analyst, the Financial Risk Manager, and the Professional Risk Manager programs. He holds the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission Advanced Certification which includes Portfolio Management.
